Internet Casinos need Regulating

Internet casinos are not some fad that are going to die out. Casinos on the internet are providing people with a way of gambling using software. Land based casinos use software to operate slot machines, joker poker, and black jack on computer terminals.

The software used in land based casinos is tested certified and licenced for use. Requiring an internet casino to produce software that matches these same standards would not be considered by anyone to be unreasonable.

The time for regulating internet casinos has arrived!

Recent attempts by elected representatives of the people, has failed. Prosecutors in New York are doing more grandstanding on their soap boxes than prosecuting. The next time I hear anyone say online casinos are something new, I will know for certain that time warps do exist.

Internet casinos have been around since 1996. During this period they have grown from a fledgling business to one of the largest businesses on the internet. I estimate for the year 2000, Internet casinos grossed 2 billion dollars. This year, a 20% rise in revenue is a reasonable prediction.

People want to gamble on the internet. So what is the big problem? If I can go to any casino I choose, why can't I choose an online casino? All the internet gambler is doing is selecting the setting that suits his needs. At home, work, wherever his computer is.

New Jersey has already announced that they are looking into regulating Internet casinos. Nevada and Las Vegas cannot be far behind. New Jersey knows that online casinos will not affect land based casinos in the state. For the simple reason that, if this was true, Las Vegas would have suffered after casino gambling became legal in New Jersey. Las Vegas has continued to prosper and expand. Internet casinos are just another form of gambling. Regulating them to provide the same quality of games offered in a land based casino, is the only logical step.

The federal government decided a long time ago that gambling was to be legislated at the state level. In other words, they only wanted their taxes and knew full well that they were, and are to this day, incapable of regulating and monitoring casinos.

Some states have been regulating casinos for decades. They already have the ability to monitor the operations and the operators. Regulating internet casinos is well within their means and experience. The servers and software used to run on online casino can be located in the regulating states.

People are going to gambling on the internet. Regulation provides internet gamblers with the same rules and regulations enjoyed by visitors to land based casinos.
